How do I Vote?

The directors who make up the Board are elected from and by the Society's membership on a 'one member one vote basis'.

All members are entitled to vote in the elections for the Board of Directors, provided they have been in membership of the Society for at least six months. By doing so they help choose who will serve on the Board. Nominations are generally sought two months prior to the Society's Annual General meeting, with elections taking place during the month prior to the AGM. Members should view notices in the Society's stores and on the website for precise details. Voting in such elections is carried out as follows:

  • Postal Voting: In order to make voting accessible to all members postal voting was introduced in 2004, this has since been extended to telephone and internet voting. Ballot papers are only sent out to members who have registered on the Voting Database. Registration is available to all eligible members. To register contact Member Support on freephone 0800 65 20 124 or email: membersupport@southerncoops.co.uk.
  • Voting at Registered Office: As an alternative to postal, telephone or internet voting, eligible members may attend the registered office in Fareham on a specified election polling day to cast their vote. Date and times of voting are publicised in the Society's retail branches, at the Registered office, the Co-operative Club and on this website during the weeks leading up to the election.
