The Southern Co-operative is a Member based organisation, offering great opportunities and benefits. Being a Member is all about:
* Having your say in the way our business is run
* Helping your community
* Enjoying Member benefits
Below are the varied activities and events you can get involved in over 2012:
Member Day Trips / Visits and Local Producer Tours
Members can participate in one and two day trips at cost price.
During the last few years, the Society has organised unique member trips to Caen, Windsor, Liverpool, Kew and Oxford. We try to organise 1 paid trip per year.
Members are given the exclusive opportunity to visit some of our local food producers in our region. These tours prove very popular with members.
Members who have expressed an interest will be advised automatically about forthcoming trips and local producer tours by email or by post. Members can always find out about future member events by attending local Co-operative Community Groups.
Booking is essential for the following planned events:
• Laverstoke Park Organic Farm, Hampshire - Saturday 28th April 2012 (provisional date)
• Lakeside Introduction to Bee Keeping sessions - Sunday 27th May, Sunday 3rd June (weather permitting)
• Calbourne Water Mill, Isle of Wight - Monday 18th June

Co-operative Community Groups
For 2012, the format and structure of the local Co-operative Community Groups will be different to provide capacity for opening new local Co-operative Community Groups in new areas. Where relevant and possible, serving Society Directors may attend to support the meetings.
There are now 10 groups running, meaning you are never too far from your local Co-operative Community Group, no matter where you live in Southern England.
Members will be invited to two local meetings in the year providing that they have indicated an interest either by returning the annual member survey or by contacting Member Support.
The Spring meeting will provide members with a local update given by a society representative and will typically involve the addition of a local guest speaker (such as local store manager) where relevant and possible.
The Autumn meeting is planned to be a formal structured interim meeting, so that half yearly financial performance can be reported to the members.
There will be opportunity at both meetings for questions and answers.

Society AGM and Annual Member Convention
Members* attend the Society Annual General Meeting to consider the annual report and accounts. *Members must have been in membership for at least six months to attend. Please look out for in-store and website notice in April.
The Members' Convention that follows the AGM, offers the opportunity for Members of the Society to meet together, be informed about matters of interest which impact upon the Society or the wider Movement, discuss these issues in an informal setting and be kept up to date on developments within the Society.
Invitations to the Member Convention will be sent out to selected active members in early 2012, and those who have indicated an interest either by returning the annual member survey or by contacting Member Support.
Voting
All members are entitled to vote in the elections for the Board of Directors, provided they have been in membership of the Society for at least six months. By doing so they help choose who will serve on the Board. Nominations are generally sought two months prior to the Society's Annual General meeting with elections taking place during the month prior to the AGM. Members should view notices in the Society's stores and on the website for precise details. If you are not yet registered to receive a Postal Vote, please contact us by clicking here.
