Young pupils from Holmesdale Community Infant School helped cut the ribbon to open The Southern Co-operative’s new food store on London Road, Reigate, and received a £500 donation.
The Southern Co-operative store, home to a large range of fresh produce, an array of pastries freshly baked in-store every day and a Fairtrade product range, has created 17 new jobs within the Reigate community.
Sarah Beasley, Head Teacher of Holmesdale Community Infant School, said: The children were very excited with their visit and really enjoyed being part of The Southern Co-operative store opening. As a Fairtrade school we are delighted to have a local store that stocks many Fairtrade items. We certainly hope to make visits to the store with the children, especially during Fairtrade fortnight. The £500 was a very generous donation and we hope to use it for some staff training.”
The Southern Co-operative store has a large selection of locally sourced products as part of its ‘Local Flavours’ range. A choice of Ginger’s Kitchen’s Artisan hand cooked, classic ready meals made in the heart of Sussex and real ales sourced from Surrey’s very own Hog’s Back Brewey, Ascot Ales and Windsor and Eton Brewery in Berkshire are available in store.
Jon Stringer, The Southern Co-operative Store Manager in Reigate said: “I am glad all the hard work has paid off, my colleague and I are hoping to exceed expectations and provide our customers of Reigate with the store that they have all been waiting for! It was fantastic to work with Holmesdale Community Infant School for our store opening and we hope to form a lasting partnership and get involved with our local Reigate community as much as we possibly can!”
The community food store will be open from 7am until 10pm seven days a week and has a free-to-use ATM, plenty of car parking and hot premium Lavazza coffee to take away for just £2.
