Tots at Hopscotch Nursery will be learning about healthy eating and getting creative with food art, following their help with opening The Southern Co-operative’s new store in Portland Road, Hove.
The store’s opening (30 July) has created 22 jobs and according to Store Manager Peter Gammon, this may increase as the store has been so busy: “I’m absolutely delighted with how well the store has been received by local people. Lots of them have been saying how glad they are we’ve opened and it’s proving very popular, which is exciting. We’re looking forward to being part of Hove’s community.”
As part of this community support, The Southern Co-operative donated £500 vouchers for Hopscotch Nursery to spend at the new store to support the children’s learning. Hopscotch Nursery’s Deputy Manager, Caroline Eddy (pictured holding ribbon on right), enthused: “This donation from The Southern Co-operative is really helpful as we can use food and drink from the store to teach the children about healthy eating, cooking and recipes, for art projects as well as providing snacks. Our first plan is to create a healthy eating display at the nursery with pictures created by vegetable printing using fruit and vegetables. Taking the children on trips to local shops like The Southern Co-operative is also part of their learning about everyday life skills.”
Customers have the opportunity to win £150 co-operative vouchers simply by giving their feedback about the new store, which is open seven days a week from 7am-11pm, by 10 August.
