Local charity partners with new Whitstable Southern Co-op store

A local charity has been selected as the fundraising partner for a new Southern Co-op store, receiving a £1000 donation followed by a year’s partnership with the new store, which opened on Friday [2 February] on Cromwell Road.

Friends of Westmeads, a charity made up of parents to support Westmeads School, was selected by Southern Co-op this month as part of Southern Co-op’s ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ scheme.

Rebecca Carter, volunteer at Friends of Westmeads said: “We are delighted to have been selected as charity partner with this new Southern Co-op store! Our current goal is to raise around £8,000 to buy a playground shelter so that there is a covered area for the children to play under or for parents and guardians to collect the children in all weathers.”

Amy Barrett, Manager at the new Whitstable store said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Friends of Westmeads. We are really looking forward to organising some fundraising activities together and my team and I were proud to open the store with them today. We can’t wait to meet our new customers too!”

Southern Co-op’s new store at Cromwell Road will have 12 allocated parking spaces and a full Post Office service. A team of 20 colleagues who will run the store from 6am-11pm daily. The store will be home to a Local Flavours range, a food to go selection which includes real Italian Lavazza coffee to takeaway and an in-store bakery which will bake loaves and pastries fresh every day. Southern Co-op is committed to British farmers and all the fresh meat it sells is 100 per cent British, including the meat used in sandwiches, snacks and ready meals. All potatoes and leeks in store this winter will be 100 per cent British and at their seasonal, delicious best.
