The local mental health support charity, Mind in Croydon, has helped cut the ribbon to open The Southern Co-operative’s new food store on Orchard Way in Shirley and received a £500 donation.
The Southern Co-operative’s new store is home to a large range of fresh produce and chilled food options, an array of pastries freshly baked and available in-store every day and a hot food and coffee takeaway deal for £2.00.
Mind in Croydon’s CEO, Richard Pacitti, said: “We were very pleased to be involved in the opening of T Southern Co-operative’s new store in Shirley. The very generous donation made to us will help us to provide vital service to people in Croydon with mental health problems and their carers. Last year we saw record numbers of people coming to us for the help and support that they need and donations such as this enable us to staff our infoline and fund essential services such as the Hub which supports more than 500 people each year and prevents them from becoming lonely and isolated”.
The community food store will be open from 7am until 11pm, seven days a week with plenty of parking nearby.
Dane Kiely, Assistant Store Manager for The Southern Co-operative store in Shirley said: “We’re extremely excited to be opening The Southern Co-operative’s new store in Shirley – so far, our customers’ reactions have been really positive. The Southern Co-operative values place emphasis on community engagement, which is why my colleagues and I are proud to be making a donation to Mind in Croydon today and are looking forward to getting involved with many local causes in our area in the near future”.
