Portchester store opening creates 15 jobs

15 jobs have been created with the opening of a new convenience store by The Southern Co-operative at Linden Lea in Portchester.

The new store was officially opened by Red Barn Primary School on Wednesday 26 February and the first 50 customers were treated to a complimentary box of chocolates. Store Manager Adam Skiller said: “As an independent regional society which has its roots in Portsmouth, community support is really important for The Southern Co-operative. We’re looking forward to being involved in our local neighbourhood and to welcoming customers to our new store.” To celebrate the store opening, Red Barn School received £500 from The Southern Co-operative, which also supports Portchester Gala and has donated over £700 to support local community activities in Portchester over the past year.

Adam added: “Customers were queuing up in the sunshine on opening day to come and have a look at our new store in Linden Lea. Many have commented on the good range of quality products, and are impressed with our extended selection of frozen foods. Feedback has been very positive with regard to the design and layout of the store commenting that they have been able to find items easily. The instore bakery has proved to be very popular as has our free to use instore cash machine.”

Customers also have the chance to win £150 Co-operative vouchers by giving their feedback about the new store, which is open from 7am -11pm seven days a week, by 12 March.
