Ridgeway Community School pupils to open Wrecclesham’s new convenience store

Pupils from Ridgeway Community School will officially open The Southern Co-operative’s new convenience food store in Wrecclesham on Wednesday 21 January (10am).

The new store has created 18 jobs for local people, and will be open seven days a week from 7am-11pm. Store Manager Julie Humphries said: “We’re looking forward to being part of the Wrecclesham community and also offering our support through volunteering and help with fundraising for local good causes. Community support is an intrinsic part of The Southern Co-operative’s ethics as a co-operative to make a positive difference where we trade.” As well as a good range of produce and an instore bakery, the new store will also stock local food and drink from 30 local producers from Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex in its Local Flavours range.

The Ridgeway Community School is for children aged between 2 to 19 years with severe and complex learning difficulties. Jayne Moore, Head of School, said: “Each individual child’s needs are at the centre of everything that we do. As a school we provide education for a wide and diverse range of complex learning needs. The local community of Farnham is extremely generous and enables us to purchase the ‘extras’ for our children, such as in-house theatre performances, residential opportunities and other exciting resources which enhance the curriculum. We are very grateful to The Southern Co-operative for inviting us to the official store opening and supporting the school in this way.” The Southern Co-operative is donating £500 to The Ridgeway Community School to celebrate the opening of the new store.

Wrecclesham resident Sue Williams enthused: “Although close to Farnham, Wrecclesham has a village atmosphere but what it lacks is a good small store which could serve the local community. We are hoping that The Southern Co-operative’s new store will fill this space as well as being a centre of local information and service for us.” The new store will be open from 7am on 21 January. As part of the regional retailer The Southern Co-operative, its nearest sister store is at Heath End in Farnham.
