Staff and students from Bexley Marlborough School received a special invitation to cut the ribbon on the opening day of a new Southern Co-op store in Sidcup, receiving £1000 followed by a year long fundraising partnership.
The store opened yesterday [21 June], and the school was chosen as a fundraising partner as part of Southern Co-op’s ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ scheme.
Linda Lee, Head Teacher at Marlborough School said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been invited to open the new Sidcup Southern Co-op store and to be the store’s named Charity of the Year. It is so important for our students to be included in, and feel part of, their local community. The students thoroughly enjoyed being part of the opening ceremony and this special partnership will help us to further enhance our provision for them.
“The generous donation to the school charity will be used to help us to develop our outside learning environment which is such a vital part of learning for our students. On behalf of all the staff and families, I would like to express my sincere thanks for Southern Co-op’s consideration and generosity.”
Paul Williams, manager at the new Sidcup store said: “I am delighted to bring this new Southern Co-op store to Sidcup and my team looks forward to meeting the local residents. We’ve had a great morning with Marlborough School and we feel that they are a deserving recipient of the £1000. We look forward to working with them over the coming year and fundraising for them by doing loads of fun things like fun runs/walks, raffles, goods donations and more.”
Southern Co-op’s new store at The Oval will be home to an extensive fresh food offer with a great choice of fresh and chilled foods including fresh meat and fish, pizzas and ready meals. A food to go selection includes real Italian Lavazza coffee to takeaway and an in-store bakery will bake loaves and pastries fresh every day. Southern Co-op is committed to British farmers and all the fresh meat it sells is 100 per cent British, including the meat used in sandwiches, snacks and ready meals. All strawberries and raspberries in store this summer will be 100 per cent British and at their seasonal, delicious best.
The store, which will be open from 7am to 11pm seven days a week, also includes an ATM plus Lottery and Paypoint facilities.
‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ is The Southern Co-operative’s community engagement programme. Charities and community groups can also apply for cash donations or goods in kind through the ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ scheme which is funded by the 5p single-use carrier bag levy.
