Disadvantaged children and families in St Leonards on Sea are set to benefit from the opening of a new store by The Southern Co-operative following its donation of £500 to local charity FSN.
According to FSN’s Operations Director Stephanie Edmonds, the donation will provide food for healthy cooking activities at the charity: “FSN is really pleased and grateful to be selected as a local community partner for The Southern Co-operative’s new store in Battle Road, and we welcome the contribution of vouchers worth £500 as this will help with provisions for our projects, such as Come Dine & Shine and TTT, where families come together to share in healthy cooking and take part in activities that help to improve their family health and wellbeing. The vouchers will also make a difference in helping to provide refreshments for the St Nicholas Centre volunteers who are extremely valuable to FSN in helping to support the centre activities. We will be welcoming The Southern Co-operative team members of the Battle Road Store who we hope will visit the Centre, and join in the fun of volunteering for special events or specific tasks.”
16 jobs have been created with the opening of the new store (19 September), which is at 290 Battle Road in St Leonards on Sea. Store Manager Mark Heasman said: “We’ve been busy since opening; customers have said how they like the wide range of produce and the space in the store to shop.” Mark and his team are planning to volunteer with FSN in the months ahead to continue the store’s community support; volunteering in work time is actively encouraged by The Southern Co-operative and colleagues contributed over 4,800 hours of volunteering across southern England last year.
