A local hospice has been selected as the fundraising partner for a new Southern Co-op store on Lavant Road in Chichester, receiving a £1000 donation followed by a year’s partnership with the new store, which opened on 4 December.
St Wilfrid’s Hospice was selected by Southern Co-op last month and the partnership comes as part of Southern Co-op’s ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ scheme.
Alisa Lakeman-Ford from the Fundraising Department at St Wilfrid’s said: “We are tremendously grateful to the Southern Co-op, Lavant Road for choosing St Wilfrid’s Hospice to be their charity partner for the coming year. We have lots of ideas for ways we can work together and look forward to the year ahead, raising funds that will help us continue to provide our vital services and make such a difference to the lives of local people.”
John Tyson, Manager at the new Chichester store said: “We are delighted to be partnering with St Wilfrid’s Hospice today. We are really looking forward to organising some fundraising activities with them and my team and I were proud to open the store with them today and we can’t wait to meet our new customers!”
Southern Co-op’s new 3000 square feet store at Lavant Road will have 18 allocated parking spaces and a petrol station. A team of 24 colleagues will run the store from 7am-11pm daily. The store will be home to a Local Flavours range, including food and drink from Chichester suppliers The Chichester Biltong Company, Fishbourne Apiaries, Farmhouse Cookery, More Food Sussex Bakes, Montezumas, Southdowns Water, Caroline’s Dairy, Goodwood beer and many more. There will also be a food to go selection which includes real Italian Lavazza coffee to takeaway and an in-store bakery which will bake loaves and pastries fresh every day.
Southern Co-op is committed to British farmers and all the fresh meat it sells is 100 per cent British, including the meat used in sandwiches, snacks and ready meals. All brussels sprouts and parsnips in store this winter will also be British and at their seasonal, delicious best.
‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ is Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme. This initiative addresses four key social themes, as identified by a survey of over 4,000 members and colleagues, for promoting: ‘Greener Neighbourhoods’, ‘Healthier Neighbourhoods’, ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’, and ‘More Inclusive Neighbourhoods’.
Charities and community groups can also apply for cash donations or goods in kind through the ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ scheme, which is funded by the 5p single-use carrier bag levy.
