The Southern Co-operative Portishead Store Host Charity Bake Sale for the Jessie May Trust

Colleagues from our Portishead store have donated £200 to the Jessie May Trust, following a successful bake sale.

As part of The Southern Co-operative’s ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ community programme, the Jessie May Trust has been chosen by several of our stores ‒ including the Portishead store ‒ as their charity fundraising partner for the year. The Jessie May Trust is a children’s charity that provides palliative nursing care at home for children with terminal illness.

Colleagues and customers from the Portishead store contributed home-baked goodies for the sale, including the Store Manager, Josh Rees – who baked a coffee and walnut cake.  Josh said: “The Jessie May Trust is such a fantastic cause that we are so happy to be helping. It means the world to us that we are able to support the children and their families during such a hard time in their lives, and we are looking forward to holding more successful events throughout the next year.”

It costs £270 to provide a three hour respite visit for a family, in turn giving them a much needed break to recharge their batteries and in the comfort of knowing that their child is being cared for by a trusted Jessie May Nurse.  The contribution from the Portishead store will enable the charity to schedule an extra visit for a local family.

Lindsey Horton, Corporate Partnership Officer at the Jessie May Trust, said: “We are delighted to be working with The Southern Co-operative in Portishead, as part of their Love Your Neighbourhood campaign. Jessie May is a Children’s Hospice at Home service that provides support to local life limited children and their families, and to be supported by a truly local shop in this wonderful community means so much to our families and Nurses.  A huge thank you to everyone involved, you are making a real difference to real people.”
