“TSC is so much more than just a shop; it’s about being part of the community and giving something back. It’s about the members, not just making the maximum for shareholders and this really resonates with me. I’ve been a TSC member since 2013; my motivation to join was the frequency I shopped in my local store! But as I like to do more where I can and wanted to be more involved, I put myself forward when the Director position was advertised (May 2015).
In my role as Head of HR Business Partnering at the University of Southampton, I work with senior business leaders to support, advise and coach them on their business strategies. It is my belief that businesses are successful because of the people who work for them. Having previously held various management roles at the John Lewis Partnership for 18 years, I also have an excellent understanding of the retail sector and am passionate about customer service.
Equality and fairness are important issues to me; I established and am Director of the charity Holding Hands for Equality hh4e.org and also write for EILE magazine in support of equal rights for the LGBT community. As a volunteer bereavement counsellor for Cruse bereavement services, I offer support to people struggling with grief. I want to use every skill I have to enhance my community.
At TSC, I’ll use my experience, people skills and retail knowledge to ensure that every decision we make as a Board holds true to TSC’s ethics and moral values, whilst being commercially focused. I can offer my experience as a retailer, manager and most importantly, a TSC customer.”
