Join us at Bee Corner, at our Havant Crematorium, The Oaks, for a tour of our very own apiaries under the direction of an experienced bee keeper.

Montezuma Chocolate Factory Tour – Birdham, West Sussex (25th February)

Our members spent the morning immersed in all things chocolate, seeing how Montezuma make, package and dispatch their scrumptious chocolate. They made their own chocolate bar and relished plenty of tastings too – a chocolate lover’s dream! We have been stocking Montezuma’s scrummy chocolate products in our stores since 2012; you can find a good selection of their range in over 70 of The Southern Co-operative stores.


Hogs Back Brewery – Farnham, Surrey (1st March)
Members were shown the complete brewing process, taking in the smells of the conditioning rooms and raw ingredients used, to understand how Hogs Back Brewery produces its different beers and lager as stocked in our stores. Tastings were offered during the tour (and for drivers in the party to take home to enjoy later)), whilst guides expertly explained the processes and answered all questions. An extremely popular invitation as we ended up having to run two tours that evening to accommodate more members!


Calbourne Water Mill and Museum – Calbourne, Isle of Wight (5th April)
Our members and their families spent a sunny afternoon seeing the Isle of Wight’s only working water mill in action. They heard about the history of milling and leant about the techniques that make Calbourne’s flour, oats and muesli so special. They also tried the delights on offer in the café and enjoyed the wonderful surroundings of Calbourne Water Mill, which include a clay-play area, war museum, and for those with more energy, a lake for punting and pedalos. All this in the company of the mill’s resident peacocks, geese and ducks!

Marshfield Farm Ice Cream – Chippenham, Wiltshire (6th April)
Another extremely popular invitation and fortunately Marshfield Farm was able to offer a morning and an afternoon tour to accommodate the demand from members.Our members and their families were given an exclusive tour around the inner workings or Marshfield Farm, seeing both the majestic cows and the ice creamery machinery. Everyone was amazed to learn about the natural flavours and colours that go into ice cream, without the need for anything artificial; beetroot is used, for example, in the strawberry ice cream to give it that gorgeous pinky red colour!
Our members were, of course, given plenty of samples of many of the delicious flavours Marshfield Farm ice cream to try – a resounding ‘thumbs up’ all round!


Hill Farm Juice – Swanmore (21st June)
Our Members and their guests enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to visit the stunning Hill Farm orchard and learn how the team at Hill Farm Juice make their delicious range of juices. Members were also shown how the pressing and juicing machinery works and how the juice is bottled. The tour was obviously completed with a full tasting of this stalwart favourite in our Local Flavours range.


Jon Thorner’s – Shepton Mallet (18th August)
Members were shown the production area in action, and had the opportunity to see how the pies, sausages, burgers were made and also had the chance to see some amazing butchery skills! Each member had the chance to make their own pie and sausages, which they then got to take home to enjoy. Members were truly spoilt by Jon Thorner’s and received a complimentary award winning pie and a fantastic goody bag to take home.

Caroline’s Dairy – Siddenham (23rd August)
Members were given access to the working farm and got to see where the cows and sheep sleep, what they eat and the milking parlour. They were then shown where and how the award winning ice-cream is made followed by a delicious tasting session.

Bee Island visit – 1000 Lakeside, Portsmouth (Saturday 24th July and Sunday 4th September)

Members enjoyed a private tour of Southern Co-op Bee Island, located at 1000 Lakeside, Portsmouth. The tour included a talk from Southern Co-op’s Chairman, Michael Hastilow, a showcase of the 4 bee hives and had the opportunity to take home some locally produced honey too.
