Poppy appeal

With around 20 flower beds in Mere (Wiltshire) filled with red poppies to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War1, Manager of The Southern Co-operative store in the Square, Janet Avery and her Deputy Katie Philps volunteer to dead head and weed the three beds by the war memorial to keep the fabulous displays blooming in memory of the war’s fallen soldiers.

Finance volunteer team are an asset to Wildlife Trust

More used to number crunching than wading in streams, the finance team for The Southern Co-operative spent a day volunteering with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust in the New Forest to help eradicate invasive non-native Himalayan balsam.

Acclaim for Isle of Wight’s winning young cooks from Masterchef The Professionals champion

Two 14 year old cooks from the Isle of Wight have been crowned Create and Cook competition champions by BBC2’s Masterchef: The Professionals champion, Chef Steven Edwards, winning praise for their impressive use of Island produce as well as £1000 for their school’s food technology department.
