Family fun day launches £15,000 fundraising for Emsworth community

The Southern Co-operative store team in Emsworth is inviting residents, friends and family to join them for a free community family sports and fun day this Sunday 26 May. The day will launch the store’s 2013 Community Support Card scheme to raise £15,000 for local good causes; Innovations Fitness FitBeat and Emsworth Baptist Church Trust.

£10,000 fundraising scheme launches for Westbourne community

The Southern Co-operative store in Westbourne near Emsworth has launched its Community Support Card scheme for 2013, with the goal of donating up to £10,000 to two local good causes.

The Good Companions Club for over 55s could benefit from up to £2500 from the scheme, and Westbourne Primary school is set to receive up to £7,500. The Community Support Card (CSC) scheme is run in selected TSC stores across the south, and relies on the backing of customers but without costing them anything. Free CSC cards are given to customers wanting to support the fundraising who then have them swiped each time they shop. The more people who use the card, the quicker funds are donated by The Southern Co-operative.

Laura’s head shave in store raises funds for Cancer Research

Laura Ridley, a customer service assistant at The Southern Co-operative store in Haywards Heath, has braved a head shave to raise over £345 in aid of Cancer Research.

Laura, aged 27, said: “My mum was recently diagnosed with bone cancer so I wanted to do this to raise awareness of, and funds for, Cancer Research. Bone cancer can’t be cured but it can be managed, so hopefully by doing this I will help to save someone else’s mum.” Laura has worked at The Southern Co-operative store for 4 years.

Ryde Academy pupils crowned Island Create and Cook Competition champions!

Pupils Rosie Foot and Moza Ackroyd from Ryde Academy have been crowned Isle of Wight’s 2013 Create and Cook Competition champions for their winning locally inspired menu.

This new competition for 12-14 year old from Isle of Wight schools is run by fit2cook food education. Sponsored by The Southern Co-operative, it aims to nurture young talent and celebrate local food. The winning duo, both aged 13, fought off stiff competition from three other teams in the finals, held on 8 May at the Cookery School, Isle of Wight College: Josie and Abigail from Carisbrooke College, Colby and Peter from Sandown Bay Academy plus Aimee and Courtney also from Sandown Bay Academy.

Win a luxury Local Flavours hamper to celebrate the Hampshire Food Festival!

Local food lovers have the chance to win a luxury hamper filled with local produce from The Southern Co-operative, in celebration of July’s Hampshire Food Festival.

The Southern Co-operative (TSC) stocks around 450 lines of Hampshire food and drink in 15 co-operative food stores across Hampshire.  TSC’s Local Flavours Category Manager, Kate Hibbert, explained: “As a co-operative, working with local food producers is part of our business ethos to support the communities in which we trade. Giving local food producers a route to market every day of the week in our stores is another way we can put something back into Hampshire’s economy.” The Southern Co-operative also backs the food festival’s organisers Hampshire Fare as a corporate partner, and will be hosting Hampshire Food Festival events at its stores in Denmead, Romsey, Clanfield, Stockbridge, Wickham and Overton in July, for customers to sample its Local Flavours range and join in the foodie celebrations.

Selsey store to donate up to £25,000 for local community

The Southern Co-operative store in Selsey has announced the recipients of its 2013 Community Support Card scheme which will donate up to £25,000 to two local good causes.

Shoppers at the store are being encouraged to support The Southern Co-operative’s 2013 campaign to donate up to £25,000 that will be shared equally between Selsey and District Carers Support Group and Selsey Community Bus. Retail Business Manager, Marcus Preen, explained: “The Community Support Card (CSC) scheme doesn’t cost shoppers anything as all money is donated by The Southern Co-operative but we do need them to support the fundraising. To do this, shoppers simply need to request a free green CSC card, which we give out at the store, and have this swiped each time they shop here. The more the card is swiped, the quicker the funds are raised, it’s that simple!”
