Co-operative Freshwater celebrated the re-launch of its Community Support Card scheme with a Jubilee inspired Cream Tea party. It was held at Freshwater Memorial Hall which is one of the beneficiaries of this year’s fundraising initiative. The FYT Bus is also set to benefit from the scheme which in the last two years has raised £70,000 for local good causes in Freshwater. Over 200 people braved the weather to enjoy the indoor street party complete with ‘shops’ and party food; the highlight being a performance by the local Gospel Choir.
The two groups play a key role in the Freshwater community and were chosen to receive the money by a panel of local members.
The Community Support Card scheme works by The Southern Co-operative making a donation to the fund every time customers have their special community cards swiped as they shop. The target to be raised for the two groups over the coming year is £30,000.
