Co-operative Xest raises Be Steady, Safe, Secure Campaign in support of National Falls Awareness Week

Daily Living Aids Specialist co-operative Xest are raising their Be Steady, Safe and Secure campaign again this year to coincide with National Falls Awareness Week in the U.K.

New statistics have recently been released by the NHS which paint a concerning picture. Around 75,000 hip fractures occur every year in the U.K, affecting some men and around 1 in 6 women, more so than those treated for breast cancer. Survival rates from fractures are also very low; 1 in 3 patients die within the first 12 months[i]

Andrea Dipple, Managing Director at co-operative Xest, said “95% of hip fractures occur as a direct result of falls in the U.K. These frightening statistics show an urgent need for us to do more to help prevent vulnerable people from falls in the future. Simple steps can be taking around the home which will not only allow elderly people to keep their dignity and independence but will also give them the support with mobility they may require. At co-operative Xest, our focus is on providing affordable, high quality products including grab rails, walking sticks, reachers and walking frames which can all help to make life easier. Most importantly they can help prevent a loved one becoming another one of these dreadful statistics”.
