Co-operative support for typhoon victims

£10,000 has been donated by The Southern Co-operative to the International Co-operative Alliance’s recovery fund following typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Silena Dominy, Society Secretary for The Southern Co-operative (TSC), an independent society trading only in the south of England, said: “The International Co-operative Alliance (ICA), of which TSC is a member, is working with the Philippine people to help re-establish co-operatives in the region as soon as possible and ensure the continuity of communities during what will be a long recovery period. We are pleased to announce that The Southern Co-operative is donating £10,000 to the recovery fund.”

Free community party launches £10,000 fundraising for Mere

A community support card scheme has been launched by The Southern Co-operative’s store in Mere to raise £10,000 for the village’s girl guiding and scout groups. 

Mere’s brownies, rainbows, beavers, cubs, scouts and guides along with their families and friends joined in the fun at a free community party, held in the village on Sunday 24 November, to launch the fundraising scheme for the year ahead. The afternoon included bingo, tombola, raffle, tea and homemade cakes, face painting, creative biscuit decorating and, as the highlight of the afternoon, plenty of lively camp fire singing! The party was opened by Wiltshire Councillor George Jeans.

Emsworth shoppers get into spirit of Halloween fundraising!

A Halloween charity day at The Southern Co-operative’s store in Emsworth has raised a spook-tacular £230 for Canine Partners (31 Oct).

Shoppers got into the spirit of the day supporting a cake sale, children’s lucky dip and a Halloween raffle organised by the store. Deputy Manager Aaron Jackson, who organised the fundraising along with the store’s Community Champion, Jacqui Barton, said: “The event in-store was a great community day for colleagues and customers. All colleagues dressed in Halloween costumes and Canine Partners brought along their dogs for shoppers to meet. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this fabulous fundraising event.”

Marie Knight from The Southern Co-operative store on Castle Street in Portchester near Fareham has been announced best sales assistant in the co-operative and multiple sector and is through to the finals of the Sales Assistant of the Year Awards 2013, which takes place on Tuesday, November 12.
