The Southern Co-operative helps give children a very special CHICKSmas!

In support of their nominated charity CHICKS, The Southern Co-operative have donated £12,500 to enable them to hold a special Christmas camp for 32 children for the very first time at both of their retreats in Devon and Cornwall. Whilst most of us celebrate with large dinners and gifts, home life can get even worse for some CHICKS kids. Many will suffer abuse, be living in poverty or continue to care for sick or terminally ill relatives.

CHICKS, a charity who provide disadvantaged children from across the UK with a free respite break throughout the year, have arranged for children to go horse riding, ice-skating, make their own decorations and gifts for each other, and even perform in their own nativity play. They will also be receiving Christmas gifts which have all been donated by the charity’s supporters. The Southern Co-operative were proud to help make all of this possible and even donated teddies, toys and craft materials to help make this Christmas a magical and memorable one for all the children.

Chief Executive, Mark Smith said ‘We sometimes take for granted that we will have an enjoyable Christmas, spending time with family and friends, and exchanging gifts. It is very humbling that CHICKS workers will be giving their time voluntarily to help make this camp possible for many disadvantaged children, and we are only too pleased to lend our support to such a worthwhile cause.’
