In previous years, we used to support one charity for the year, raising more than £1 million for 2 very worthy causes.
Below is a list of all our previous ‘Charity of the Year’ partners
There are an estimated 70,000 disabled children and young people in the UK waiting for a wheelchair that fits their young lives. A national charity which operates with a local focus, Whizz-Kidz provides disabled children with the essential wheelchairs and other mobility equipment they need to lead fun and active childhoods. Since 1990, Whizz-Kidz has helped 18,000 disabled children across the country to reach their full potential.
Fundraising got off to a flying start in July 2014 during The Southern Co-operative’s Charity Awareness Week, which saw colleagues across the business ‘Going Green’ to raise funds. A huge range of activities took place, from cake sales and raffles, sponsored cycles and fancy dress days in store to giving up social media and gadgets for a day. 2015’s event saw an even bigger effort from stores and branches across the south, and raised a fantastic £15,000 in one week.
With the support of our members, colleagues and customers, we’ve hit our £500,000 target during the two year partnership.
Canine Partners enables people with disabilities to enjoy a greater independence and a better quality of life through the provision of specially trained dogs. A fervent two years of fundraising by colleagues working for The Southern Co-operative, supported by its members, customers and suppliers, resulted in the Society smashing its charity partner fundraising record. As a result of the two year partnership with The Southern Co-operative, Canine Partners has been able to purchase 25 puppies to join their training programme and help towards the cost of training 15 of these puppies to become highly skilled Canine Partners assistance dogs.
The two year corporate partnership has secured a total of £507,486 for the charity Canine Partners.
